It seems I am somehow building a collection of 10mm guns. Even though I really think the 9x23 is probably the point of diminishing returns for both power and control in a 1911 package, I ended up with a mint 10mm Colt to build on. Actually, it was bought with the idea of a project with Brian Bilby doing the smithing. Sad to say, I will never get my wish of a Brian Bilby 10mm gun.

When Brian was alive, he used to kid with Dane and tell him he was the "King of 9x23" and that he and Richard Heinie were the "Co-Kings of 10mm". So now that Brian is no longer with us, who are the other 1911 pistolsmith that are just as jazzed about 10mm 1911s as Brian was?

qm,

Does Ed Brown actually build anything other than his own branded proprietary pistols? I always thought he didn't work on anything else.

So, anyone know what other pistolsmiths are proponents of the 10mm round? I am not talking about those that will merely accomodate a wish for 10mm pistol, but rather I am curious what smiths are *ten men*.

I do know Richard Heinie is one of the bigger 10mm fans in 1911 circles. The pistol I am thinking of building on is a rare mint Colt Custom Shop piece, so it would at least be a worthy candidate for becoming a Heinie fullhouse gun. Maybe I will just talk to Dick about it. I am not a very patient person, but I am already waiting on one Heinie pistol, so what the heck...

At one time Ed did indeed do work on other pistols, I have aquired a 10mm Colt through a trade that was done by Ed Brown's shop in the early 90's according to the seller.
I am ordering a digital ccamera this week and will post some of the pics of guns in my collection soon.

Thanks for the info David. I went and looked at Ed Browns web site and I was flat wrong. According to his web site he will work on most any single stack or double stack. He does stipulate no aluminum guns and only blue or stainless finishes. More details are available at his web site

I will anxiously look forward to the pic from the new camera. You have noted some very fine hardware.

David,

Nice 10mm! Would you please tell us a little bit about who built it for you and maybe how it is speced, etc.? What do like best about the gun, and what would you do different (if anything)? Nice Deiter BTW.

DD,
I'm waiting to see if the maker recognizes it and emails me... a little private history there.
It started out life as a 1989 Colt Delta Elite 10mm, it has been refinished twice and it currently has approx. 9,000 rounds through it. I used it at range over 120 yards to take a 135lb doe in N.M with a 170 gr.Kaswer/Cirillo Law Graber and it has gone to Venezuala and Brazil with me.
It is not for sale, please don't ask.

I'm not David, other wise I might sell that 10mm to Bruce

But I know at least one agency in the Federal government who are issued that knife for close protection work and love it. Their model has the glass breaker which I would think is the real handy feature not easily replaced. But it is NOT a small knife and for what it is I prefer others for typical carry and use. This one is very specific and is great if you have the need for the ultimate "swiss army" knife that does a lot.

It isn't a "pocket" knife.

Thanks Dane.

Harley, as Dane says, nice piece...heavy piece. The MOD's I have owned were pretty nice for the price. The Dieter CQD model, as shown, you can pick up for under $200 here and there, in manual action. Retails for on the other side of $300, I think. Pretty darn good considering the versatility of it. It makes a better web-gear piece than pocket piece, imho.

Well, harley ol' buddy

Seriously, wholesale on that blade is $191.24. That is manual. Now, on top of that is shipping, etc., and, the dealer needs to eat, so.... But let me do some digging, see what I can find.
