I am wanting to build an Open Gun for USPSA on a Glock 17 that I have. I will likely be going with a KKM barrel and comp in 9x21.

I would appreciate any and all thoughts on this project.

Thanks for the response guys.

I will be using a chrono to work up the loads. I have a supply of Vectan SP-2 powder. Slow burning (some say dirty), any suggestions? My current supply of Primers are Federal Magnum Small Pistol (Federal 200). I use these on the suggestion of JP Enterprises, after their trigger job.

I have a number of questions that I would love to get some feedback on...just for peace of mind. I have done quite a bit of research, but you can't be too careful. Please chime in if you have an opinion.

1a. I am looking to load to the long end of OAL to help keep some of the pressure down. Good idea? The 9x21 is supposed to be loaded to the same OAL as the 9mm (1.161 I believe). Can I seat the bullet out a little farther and take advantage of the extra case length? If so, how long can I load and still get the rounds to feed through the Glock mags?

1b. Can/should I ask my barrel maker (KKM or Barsto)to do any special reaming of the throat(leade) area?

2. Any barrel length suggestions?

3. Any suggestions on the compensator? Matt K. from Custom Glock Racing uses a comp made by THE Assesories. I have never seem one, nor can I find any pictures of one on the internet.

KKM has a comp that I have a picture of, but I don't know how to post it. It is similar looking to the Glockmeister comp below. It has five holes. Two more oblong holes, one on each side, toward the front of the comp. And, a smaller, round hole that I think goes into the top of the actual barrel (at the back of the comp). (barrel/comp $265)

Glockmeister is selling a KKM barrel and (Glockmeister?)comp, cheap. Here is the link to a picture of it. ($200)

I don't know much about compenstors. Every dealer says that theirs' are the best. I know a few guys have seven port comps on their Supers. They can put a piece of tape over the last hole or two and it has no effect on the comp. Not even enough pressure to blow the tape off. I don't want to waste money on someone's hole drilling/marketing project.

4. Some say to use a lower receiver from a 40 or 357SIG. It has the added locking pin block that the 9mm lowers don't have. Is this needed or is it over-kill?

5. What about the recoil system? Should I just go with a stronger spring? Would I want to use the same spring set-up that is used for the G31(357SIG)?

WOW. That is pretty long huh? Any info will be appreciated. Thanks everyone.
