Aguila makes that aluminum (or, whatever) bullet, a hollow point of ~115 grain in a .45 acp.
Has anyone tried it?
I was thinking of tracking down a few boxes for my AR in .45, but not sure how it'd perform out of a 16" barrel.
I'll probably stick with 230 sub-sonics, since they're queit.

Hello. I've fired it out of a 5" bbl'd 1911 and cannot find the velocity notes, but think it was around 1500 ft/sec.

The light-for-caliber bullet fragmented reliably into 3 pieces in all types of test media that I had at the time which was water and wetpack.

Recoil was minimal; kind of like firing a .38 Super from the 1911, but muzzle blast was fierce! There was also one heck of a flash visible, even in daylight!

Accuracy was OK, but not nothing special. It would group about as well as ball did in this particular gun.

Best.

The Aguila High Power personal defense round was introduced in 1998 as a part of a bid for a Mexican police contract. The .45acp loading uses a 117gr cast aluminum bullet loaded in a brass or nickel casing depending on lot number. The bullet is precast into three sections and averages 6-7" inches of penetration in gelatin, it should be noted that the sections are oblong and it causes each fragment to travel in an outward wound pattern.
The bullet is a non-sump design and as such is a particuarly poor choice against obstructions.

Hi folks. This is mi first post in this forum, and is also the first time i heard in the net about the Aguila amunnition. I happenned to shoot two box of them in mi Glock 30, and they didn't seem to be nothing extraordinary. I want to carry in mi 45 the most powerful ammo available, and here in mi country is sometimes very dificult to obtain certain brands. I only read a report in the Gun World magazine by Ed Sanow. He like the ammo but i don't remember anymore. Do you have any actual record abolut it?

Die,
You should be able to order the Aguila High Power at Armeria Geviar En Perito Moreno 679 - Local 9, telephone (02972) 422-802. I have purchased ammo from them while in the area.
I come to your area on average once per year and have found them to be fair to deal with.
