Ok guys, We all know that S&B is really inexpensive, but which shoots cleaner and has a lower muzzle flash, Federal's American Eagle or S & B? Sam

The S&B I have shot at night (72 round night IDPA match) had the
LEAST muzzle flash of any factory load at the range that night.
Extremely low signature.

As far as fouling, it is probably a bit dirtier, but ANY tactical 1911 should last 500-1000 rounds between cleaning of even the dirtiest ammo.

For my money, I LOVE the S&B, and I have tried everything else (Fiocchi, PMP, PMC, Fed., Win, Rem...yadda yadda yadda)

I'll second the motion on S&B. It's great stuff. I've shot cases of both .40 and .45 and like it a lot. Always feeds & fires, pretty good accuracy and not to grubby. And my friends who reload tell me the brass is pretty damn good, too.

Try Natchez Shooter Supply http://www.natchezss.com They usually have great prices on S&B.

S&B is pretty good but for my money my favorite .45 ball is the Federal white box contract 230gr FMJ.
It is very clean and it is loaded with reduced flash powders.

I usually pickup a few cases at a time as various runs come through.
Give it a try, I think you will like it.

David, How does it compare to S&B in cost and where can I get it online? Thanks, Sam

Sam,
It is usually 9.50 per box of 50rds and I ahve purchased it online in the past form Eric the ammo man @ http://www.ammoman.com and form Natchesz shooters shupply @ http://www.natchezss.com.

I find it to be very good ammo and for those that are interested the Federal Contract ammo also features sealed primers, NATO marked cases and lacquered loads for good water resistance.

Hmmm...I had the opposite experience. Primers went in smooth as silk with littl pressure. In gact I kinda' worried at the time, but it's unfounded as I've had no problems whatsoever with my reloads...

Natchez Shooters Supply http://www.natchezss.com is currently running some pretty good prices on ammo. S&B 115gr 9mm is going for $4.99 a box , 230gr .45 for $8.10. Winchester white box .45 is $10.40.

The white box federal ammo is superb. It is the best ball ammo I've ever shot - very clean and has good accuracy. The brass is crimped and well worth your time decrimping. I have reloaded up to 7 times with no ill effects (split cases, etc).

I don't think there's a NATO mark on the .45, but there is on the 9mm. Everyone should have a few cases of this stuff for blasting and a few cases for SHTF ammo, as it should store well.

Thanks David. The more I shoot S&B the more I like it. It always goes bang and muzzle flash isn't bad at all for low light shooting. On top of all that, It's inexpensive! Sam
