Shay requested I post a pic of my Burns Custom double stack 9x23. This is the one I call the Talisman. I am now using this as my current CCW piece. For leather, I am using the Burns designed GWH holster. 17+1 (with the flush mags) 9x23 rounds in a pistol that shoots cloverleaf groups at 50 yards! Yeah baby!!

DD, we have a problem. That particular gun was outlawed today in your fine city [wherever you are]...please make arrangements to send it to me immediately:D

That is exactly what I want from Dane next. The accuracy of the 9x23 I have is remarkable.

Nice try Bruce!

Shay, the wallpaper idea is a good one. I think they call that reality construction. Just focus and you can will it to happen. Of course, if you send Dane the loot first, it will likely happen sooner!

I had some fun last weekend with the 27 round kahuna mag. Just for grins, I tried shooting as fast I could, and found I was still able to keep the group from an entire mag into a fist sized area in the center of the target at 25 yards! The trigger is so crisp and the gun shoots so flat and recoils so soft, that it is pretty easy to rapid fire accuraterly. Yeah, this one is a keeper!

bufford,

It is not always easy to find 9x23 ammo. I have found a couple of local sources, but many people will find ordering it online easier. I bought 5,000 pieces of primed brass to load instead. IIRC, I think Bruce mentioned he had some good (cheap) sources for the Winchester ammo. I have used the white box Winchester for practice and the Silvertips for carry. Interestingly enough, the whte box is loaded slightly hotter.

Can anyone help bufford with finding 9x23 ammo sources?

here is some for $9.90 a box but you need a FFL or have your local dealer order for you.

(they dont show it anymore but call them)
I like the soft points for carry, they are hot!!!

would be nice if some of the major ammo companies would realize the potential in this caliber and load some of the new hi tech bullets in it.

till they do, I'm happy with the softpoints:)

Buford...buy one then, ammo is available from several sources. Hell, I will even put you in touch with a FFL that doesn't try to get rich from a few thousand rounds

Y'all stop complimenting DD on that damned gun of his! I was trying to trade him a 3 legged coonhound, even steven, then everyone chimes in about how purty that gun is  I have no idea why DD won't respond to the offer, must be out of town.

Bufford,

Bruce is right -- don't let a little inconvienence stop you from getting a 9x23. The round is simply awesome in a 1911!

Now that Bruce has upped the offer to include a twenty pound one eyed cat with no tail, I got think about this a little more. OK, I thought about it. Nahhhhhhhhhhh. The Talisman is still a keeper!

Buford...for a box of 50 wholesale is like $9.64, plus shipping. This is excellent [read hot] Winchester 124 grain Jacketed Soft Point. The brass can be reloaded many, many times, and straight from the box it will put Whitetail Deer on your plate.

Now, I kick my ffl some extra $$ on it in hopes that he doesn't fully understand I am a cheap bastard  but, seriously, not buying this caliber because of ammo...is a mistake. Course, there is also the Winchester 125 grain Silvertip for it, and we all know how fine that round is on live stuff.

If your ffl has an account with "Jerry's", have him order you a few cases of this stuff. You will be very happy.

DD, you are a wise man. That gun is indeed a keeper.

For those of us who'd prefer that our plastic guns be Glocks...

Would a Caspian double stack frome with their slide be a good foundation for this type of 9x23 project? What about mags? Where would you get them? (for those of us not blessed to already own hi-cap 1911 mags).

The Caspian would be a fine platform for 9x23..it would be heavy with it being all steel..you may be lucky as their were a few aluminum hicaps out there for awhile..not sure if they still make them...The hi cap mags show up every now and then on the USPSA classifieds webpage...but they tend to be pretty expensive. More so than the STI/SV. Another possible source would be Fred Craig..he is a custom builder that does a lot with the caspian hicap frame...

Oh by the way..Gary Smith at Caspian says there is a 10 round 45 mag for the hicap frame out now...so that would be a very thin grip 1911 gun..the Caspian is one of the thinnest hicap frames out there.

BB,

The recoil spring is a Wolff 17 1/2 lb. variable. It is running perfect with CP Buffs. I asked Dane about the 24 lb. spring you mentioned and he thought it was overspringing for the round. You may want to reconsider your spring choice.

Bruce,

Well at least you have first rights of refusal -- after Dane! Ya might try Shay's idea and make that pic your computer wallpaper. A little reality construction never hurts.
