Greeting from north central missouri
does anyone know a gunsmith who will work on a Colt Lightning?I know they were a poor design,this one is in fair to good shape just does not want to work

Hello, welcome. Believe it or not, those old guns (and other double actions of similar style/vintage) are still used in some Cowboy Action Shooting side matches. You might ask around through the Single Action Shooting Association (SASS) website, or any local gun clubs that hold those events.

They are considered to be difficult to keep in working order for more than a modest amount of shooting. For good reason the design was improved upon and set aside in a relatively short amount of years.

As above, there are a few specialty gunsmiths who do Cowboy type gunsmithing that will work on the old Lightning.

Check out the SASS site and some of the Cowboy shooting forums for recommendations.
The people capable of working on these don't work for minimum wages, so it'll be expensive.
