I have a chance to buy two 1991 stainless Commanders for a seriously great price. I have 0 experience with series 80 guns, so I need some advice here. Can the firing pin safety parts be removed with a minimum of hassle or should I just pass on them? They would be winter project guns if purchased.

Yea, just remove the firing pin plunger and spring in the slide. The two pieces in the frame come out and a spacer(available from Brownell) goes in to fill the gap between the hammer and the frame. Then its done. There are also kits available that allow you to leave them in and get a decent trigger pull, down to about 3 1/2lb. I took them out of my combat elite and polished them on my delta elite and the triggers are about the same 3 1/2 to 4lb.
