Anyone own one of these little pocket rockets? I have read that .40 in a 1911 platform is a bad idea. True, untrue? Any comments appreciated. Thank you. Jake

My experience with the STI 40 (Edge) is that long OAL ammunition is required for reliable feeding. I run 1.175" OAL where as spec for the 40 factory loads is 1.135" max. With proper loads the gun is very reliable. I suspect the compacts from STI would be the same. Obviously the 1911 was designed for the longer 45ACP where as the original idea behind the 40 was a 9mm format gun with big bore punch. BTW, my STI 40 loads will not even fit in some of my Glock 40 mags!

I'm not sure what you're asking about. The LS40 is their compact gun, the Trojan is a full size 1911 and hardly compact.

The LS has an Officer's Model size frame (actually a little shorter) and 1911 style action but has a completely non-1911 top end. The barrel locks up in the ejection port ala Glock and is very narrow.

The LS is designed for 9mm/.40 length ammo and doesn't suffer the feed problem typical of short rounds in standard 1911 frames.

The first batch of LS40s did have some reliability problems because of defective recoil springs and weak mag springs. STI has solved those problems and the guns work great now.

I have one and it's far more pleasant to shoot than my Kahr MK40 due in part to the lightened slide. I'm probably going to sell the Kahr and get another LS40 since my wife seems to have taken ownership of the first.

STIPilot, you are correct Sir. I was thinking of the compact version and it was really more of a fullsize gun. I was wrong about which one it was. Thank you for your insights. I was more curious about the reliability of these types of guns in any case, but your post and the other gentleman's have pretty much cleared that up for me. Thank you again. Jake
