If your dad is like me, and finds himself spending most of his day sitting, a crossdraw can work very well with a compact gun. I use two of Lou's DOJ, with both a P220 and a 640-1. That covers a fairly wide size range, and should include the little Colt. I wear them in front of the weak-side hipbone. The rig (on me) is just high enough to keep the muzzle from digging when I'm sitting, and holds the butt close enough to make concealment easy with the usual clothing necessary for cross draw. I believe these are available with a small amount of muzzle-forward cant, but the vertical serves me very well.
