Some of you may already do this but here goe's.
I didn't know what to expect from the spring of the SA mag and it's strange base plate so I took a coat hanger and made a little square "U" like a horse shoe nail, the size a depth of the bottom two witness holes. Then I inserted The HS clip and held it down with my thumb, the base came off easy and the spring stayed put similar to a 1911 mag. I hope this helps somebody, and don't forget your safty glasses! Thank you, GTO. I'd been forcing the base plate on the SA mags off without doing the obvious. You are right about the spring, it flies out like a +P 9mm round. Of course mine flew up, bounced off the ceiling and into a large area of open cigar boxes full of cases......I thought. I later found it behind my safe!

Best.
