Well gang, I got in some Federal +P Expanding FMJ and, while I have not had time to do a thorough test we did an informal initial shooting at the range Sat.
Lacking proper medium we just set up a gallon jug in front of several pieces of wood. Some will like the results some will not.
The 200 gr. +P .45 (havene't chronoed this yet) penetrated the jug, expanded fully to about .80" and put a hefty dent in the first board (a treated 1X6). The +P 124 gr. 9mm was almost identical with only slightly less indentation on the same board. It expanded to about .55 (sorry don't have it here I gave it and some test rounds to a Colonel who was there and who was very in checking into this stuff.
By comparison, A .45 230 gr. +P Ranger Talon went through the jug, two of the boards and stuck in a 2X4 (didn't dig it out but it expanded). Personally, I am sticking with the Talon, but there may be merit for the other in locales that have restrictions or complications on JHPs (The People's Republic of New Jersey comes to mind)
More later but I have to prepare for a 5-day course.
Carry on!
