I have several 1911s, and all work fine. Except one. It ejects empty cases in all different directions. Sideways, STRAIGHT BACK, up, etc. It holds the loaded cartridge in the disassembled slide, seemingly all right. Coincidentally, it is the only one of my 1911s that doesn't leave a mark on the bevel of the case. What needs to be done here? New extractor? More tension? Other?
Thanks in advance, Walt

If its running, dont fix it.

If you feel the need to play, maybe add a little more tension.

I have an idea...Does anyone have a properly filed and tapered extractor they can take a picture of and post?

Might as well ask if anyone has an ejector with the correct angles as well?

I for one, would love to see what one of each looks like in a photo, 'cause neither of mine are perfect... that's for sure!

How about a technical term for "technical term?"
Nomenclature!
(ain't that cool?)

"Clocking" (Pardon me for butting in JM) If the Firing Pin Stop is not properly fitted, the extractor can turn or "clock" inside the extractor tunnel, canting the extractor claw either up or down and interfereing with proper extraction.

There, see?
Much easier to say "clocking."

Yeah...but you guys have all this experience and lots of pistols too...I still think you should pull those beautifully dressed extractors out and show us what they're REALLY supposed to look like!
