After playing around with this phpBB software, I gotta say I like many of the features better than what UBB was offering.

Have any of you used some of the things like the Memberlist sort by feature, to look for friends that have signed up, rather than go through all the pages? If you haven't tried it, you can click on "Username" at the top of the column and the software will then sort our member list in alphabetical order. Kinda handy sometimes.

Did anyone notice you can click on the sub heading button "Site Information" or "Discussion Area" and expand or collapse the sections. This will be handier as we add more sections and the list becomes bigger than your screen is. No scrolling up and down is good.

I have noticed a few people are having trouble making their smilies work. This is because they are not leaving at least one space between the last thing they type and the smiley code. I think the font used here may affect how your are viewing the spacing. BTW, anyone notice we have a few other smilies than UBB does? We can also add more if we like.

OK, now I will reveal one of my tricks for not letting people know just how A/R I can be. I hate seeing multiple edit notations at the bottom of my posts (lest you know I corrected my post eight zillion times!), so I always go to the bottom of the edit window and delte the code that appears there. With no code left, the software will add just a single edit notation. That way you never show more than one.

Anyone else found cool features they like?

BTW, we have had several people who have been wondering how to make use of the private messaging feature. The only problem we have been having, is that if you aren't logged in, the cookies feature can not give you the meesage. Once you are logged in, you will get a message indicator right under the "Private Messages" button in the upper right of the screen.

You are certainly not required to enable cookies to view the site, but this feature will not work if you choose to disable your cookies in your browser. The messages will however be held and when you do choose to log in, you will be alerted to awaing messages. It doesn't matter to us, but if you wanna use this function, that is the deal.

Another question was about adding the smilies and hyperlinks, etc. When you are posting, there are two buttons, directly under the posting window that lead you to the instruction pages. If you can't get there, try going here for the BB code (linking, images, etc.). For for smilies, go here. Try it, it will add some interest to your posts.

One more little cool trick. When you are using the private message function and you send a message, it leaves you at the black screen that only gives you an option to return to your other private messages. When this happens, just click on the PISTOLSMITH.COM logo toward the upper left corner. This will take you back to the forum index.

I have to agree. This is the best BB software interface I've come across, and I've been to A LOT of forums.

Jorah Lavin reminded me about another cool feature of this board -- themes. You can actually change your prefrence for how this board will be displayed to you. He thought the board was too dark, so I told about a feature I had almost forgotten was already available. See my comments here.

I just availed myself of another good feature here, that is the ability to edit your subject header. I have actually done this twice now. I really like this one, as I hate seeing a badly mangled subject header living on in infamy.

It of course has to be a thread you started, but all that is required is for you to go to the first post in the thread and the subject header is then available to be edited as needed. To me, this is a pretty cool feature.

Nice to see many people are starting to make use of the signature feature. Remember though, the max number of lines -- including blank ones -- is just three. My sig is linked to one post on professional registration (needed an example) so it will be a while before I add one of my own.

If you haven't tried the signature feature, then read my post here for more instructions on the process.

Anyone else have any tricks or tips to add?

Today I noticed one of our members had edited his post three different times, but apparently didn't know he could delete the mutiple edit notations that appeared on the bottom of his post, so that a only a single notation remains (see the last paragraph of the first post in this thread). This reminded me of this thread, so I decided it might be time to bring it BTT.
