I was looking through the Jan 1999 issue of American Rifleman and on the back page was a short list of firearms and what they retailed for.

S&W M-10 .38 spl 4" & 5" barrels...$56.50
S&W K-22 .22 LR....................$65.00
S&W K-38 .38 spl...................$75.00
Colt automatic (1911?).............$65.00

USED GUNS

Luger 4" BBL.......................$35.00
Walther P-38.......................$35.00

Ammunition

.45 ACP 100 rounds.................$8.00
.30-06 Arsenal 100 rounds..........$7.50

I find the ammo prices very interseting. Not much of a price increase in 50 years...Mike

Just to set things in perspective:
In 1949 I grossed $23.44 a week (six days (49 hours total.) A hamburger cost two bits. Pepsi was five cents. A bus ride downtown was ten cents. A really nice Luger cost $29.95 plus postage. "Love" meant what went on in tha back seat of a 1940 Studebaker parked at "Hidden Swamp." And, a now world famous Idaho holstermaker charged me $20 plus postage for a chamois lined, full leaf pattern embossed, FBI cant holster for my Second Model Woodsman. Momma used old bandoleers to patch my khaki range pants. My one pair of shoes were Robblee Brutes with five ply soles, burnished Marine Cordovan brown. The acepted male hairdo was a pompadour with duck ass. When we drove by a Safeway store, my 16 year old girlfriend said: "I didn't know there was a safe way."
Tempus fugits when you're having fun!
