I am a pretty casual skeet shooter. I have shot some trap. I don't hunt or bird. I shoot a Perazzi that was given to me and have a Benelli as well as some tactical shotguns. So my girlfriend comes home tonight and tells me her companies parent bought some gun company. J. Purdey and Sons. She asks "Do I want one? Because she is now entitled to 40% off the retail prices." Now if you give me 40% off a Ferrari I still can't afford it, but at least its something. Any thoughts or anecdotes or experience with Purdey guns? I would love to hear them. Probably will not be able to aqquire one for a few years, and really have no use for one, but its never stopped me before  Even the Perazzi's price is going to look pretty minute in comparison I assume. I guess I will need to actually buy an issue of Double Gun Journal.

WOW!! I would take it. 40% off.... They are nice guns. Real smooth. I love the old side by side shotguns and the Purdeys are among the best. Keep that girl.
I generally prefer the Holland and Holland shotguns, but the Purdeys are a very close second. Great to have and to pass down from gen to gen. I would by one on general principle with that price reduction. If you need any specifics just ask..

Well, I can't shoot a side by side to save my butt, but that gun, at that price would mightly tempt me to take out a 2nd on the house.

On the other hand, if that would be a side lever Boss over/under I would be a gonner.

Really helps to know Purdy will make "anything". How about a 416 Rigby DGR and a 470 DBL.

Who cares about a plebian smooth bore.

I'll trade you my guns for that discount:)

I would without any doubt say get one. The best one you can’t afford. I handled one in Nairobi or Mombassa several years ago and didn’t get it. I still kick myself over not coming home from Africa with an armful of shotguns and doubles. My shirt says, I went to Africa and all I got was this lousy Rigby.

Do it. And if you want to make a little cash, I will buy it from you.

MPOWER:

Email me if you are interested in trading that discount for ?????

Wanna know a secret? You will kick your ass if you pass up a deal like this on a Purdy. I did, and do. It seems like a lot of money you don't have right now, but trust me...you will wish you had sold a car, or whatever, later in life. Take it from those who have walked the self-inflicted ass-kicking path

I have a fair amount of experience with English Best Guns. If you are serious about acquiring a Purdey and have any questions, please E-mail me or send a Private Message on this board.

I think Dane will vouch for my bona fides.

Wow, nice opportunity. Can we join your extended family for the same discount? Purdey's are great!

You already may know but if you have double gun questions, there's another great board dedicated to fine doubles.

Yes, they're expensive but if I had the opportunity to try and buy an "entry level" Ferrari, it's still a Ferrari!!

Take Mr. Cosby's very generous offer and ask a lot of questions of him. There's a lot to learn and know about doubles and I'm only a rookie -- but I do have a couple of sxs doubles and they're great (no, not Purdey's)!
