Hello. I think you did fine. I've owned but one Kimber and it is a Custom Classic. The thing is reliable and quite accurate. Did a bit of trigger work on the pistol and had to dress down the front sight just a bit and changed the stocks, but the gun's a keeper.
I shoot it frequently and wouldn't hestitate to use it for defensive purposes. That's about as high of praise as I can put on a gun.
