I made reference to this in another thread without getting any responses so I thought I'd get it in a subject line and see if I did any better. I'd surely be grateful for some help on this one.

I recently picked up (on order _forever_) Stainless Compact. The barrel in this thing is just bizarre - viewed from the side, it looks like the last inch of barrel at the muzzle has been cut off moved up a 1/16" and put back on. The bore is ok, of course, and I understand that this is a bushingless design so the muzzle is machined differently than a standard configuration, but my other Compact didn't look like this.

Are you saying the barrel is larger at the muzzle end or somethig else? If so, it's a pretty common design in the shorter SAs...There are some that are bull barrels, but these are just bull at the last inch or so. I know that at some point they were also making a standard diameter barrel with bushing. If this is something other than that, let us know...Maybe you have an "alien"!

I would expect it to be larger at the muzzle, but as I said the last inch looks as though it has been diplaced upwards. I know,I couldn't believe it either. If you look at the barrel from the side along the top of the barrel, there is about a 1/16 step about an inch from the muzzle. If you look along the bottom of the barrel, there is also a step _up_. If it were a case of the muzzle being larger, the top of the barrel would step up and the bottom would step down. On this freak, _both_ top and bottom step up.

I apologize for not being able to explain this better - unfortunately I don't have access to a digital camera.
