Hey Buf,

I don't think it matters what profession you are in these days - there is simply never enough free time. I don't think LEOs are any different from anyone else, in that aspect.

I think the trick is to simply draw the line somewhere (you decide where), and realize that there are more important things in life (your FAMILY), that should/must take precedence over any career you have. I know far too many people whose marriage has been ruined because one or both partners put career ahead of all else.

I once worked for a Narcotics supervisor who had this to say about family time, "Your family comes first. If the dopers are selling today, they'll still be selling tomorrow." He was a very wise man. He was also a very, very successful and competent narc.

Witherspoon, your comments obviously echo my own. With that in mind, it is kinda scary that cops have one of the highest divorce rates than any other occupation.

Go hug your wife - RIGHT NOW.

"Free time?" Hang on, I need a dictionary for that one...

I would hug my wife, if I had one. Divorced a few years ago, while I was working as a narc, 24/7. I have a great girlfriend now, so I guess I'll go hug her.

Actually, outside of work, I try to run an IDPA club, I write a little, and about twice a month I try to stay on the top part of my horse, and I am sometimes unsuccessful at that last endeavor.

Shane-

Thanks for the suggestion, but not to worry.
Wife and kid hugging are NOW at the top of my list!

I realize that Canada is a BIG country. I have good friends near Hamilton, Ontario. You anywhere near there?
