Just curious how many here still find this the best combination of power and carryabilty for .45 ACP 1911? Are you using Colts, or do you have one of the Kimber, SA, etc. clones? How many prefer the Officers Model frame mated to the Commander slide? Anyone have theirs chambered for a different caliber?

I know you're not a big Para fan DD, but my favourite is a P13-45 Ltd. S/S. (Commander length barrel, officer length frame, and hi-cap to boot.) Accurate (1 1/2" at 25 yds. from a rest), reliable (3 jams in over 5000 rds.).

I'm a sucker for commander length pieces. They just LOOK and FEEL right.

I also own a Colt Combat Commander (steel). Also a good, reliable shooter, but my long fingers feel more at home around the double stack.

I really like the combination of the Officers frame with a Commander lenght (4 1/4") slide. The combination just feels/looks right. Being a "full-size" person, I don't really have a problem concealing a full-size 1911. But, for those of smaller stature (or girth), the shorter grip of the Officers/Commander can eliminates some printing problems associated with the longer grip of the full-size 1911. My version is built using a Colt steel frame/slide.

Never found the weight to be enough of a problem to go to a light weight Commander. I still prefer the balance of a Combat Commander, even over a full size.

I recently went from a gov't model to a Kimber Pro Carry (4" bull barrel). I couldn't believe the difference that 1" makes. The balance is better for me, the gun is more controllable, and my accuracy is better. I'm 5'8'' with smallish hands, which could be the reason that the smaller gun works better for me.

I have had Lwt Commanders and Combat Commanders in the past but after trying a Springfield Lwt. Govt. Model, I like the handling charteristics of this piece. Lightweight, yet still have the full length sight radius and handling characteristics of the full size piece.

I carry a Briley Fantom F-15. Its a 15 shot 9x23,aluminum frame. I am looking to make a Colt officer frame with a commander slide in 9x23. I don't quite like the grip on the Caspian Hi-Cap frame.

Just got a springfield armory lw stainless compact yesterday. So far so good. One box of 50 rds of 200 gr swc over 5.9 of w231= no malfunctions. Runs like we think they should so far.
Needs a taller front sight, it hits too high and a dehorning job to get rid of the sharp angles, and some of the slim tech type grips, but all in all a very pleasing piece. Joey S.

Hey there 38suprcmdr,

You just sold off a 9x23 top end..did it not work out. I have thought a lightweight 9x23 would be cool, but have been willing to fork out the money to experiment. I love to here what your results were..Thanks

Hey EERW,I sold only one of my 9x23`s.I kept the Colt.I like the Caliber but is not relyable enough for me to carry.I guess if I sent it to Dane then it would be good enough to carry.Anyway I like the 38 Super. And I have carried and shot it for so long it is like another finger on my hand.

I just cant say enough good things about the Commanders I have. I switched from a full size to a Commander when I got out of uniform and went to plain clothes in investigations and I have never looked back. The Commanders just plain work for me.

I just picked up a NIB Colt Defender, I dont have any range time with it yet but that will change soon. I still dont think it will replace my Commanders.

I have an old Bud Price LW Commander with S&W sights that I have carried for years..Have two others I did up myself, one with Novaks' and one with a Bomar BMCS..Most recently I've been carrying an old LW worked over by Kurt Wickman in 9mm[Arthritis is hard on your wrist] and the reduced recoil has been a pleasant relief..There are many options out there now for 1911 carry packages but IMO it's hard to beat the good old LW Commander..Think I'll stick with it for another 25 years..

My 1911's are all Govt's. I've toyed with the idea of a Commander, but I think the visual proportion of the Commander slide/Officer frame combo is nicer looking... looks like a scaled-down Gov't. Haven't shot one enough to make a decision, as I do like the full-size grip. Oh, to have the money for two of each flavor!

Maybe a Commander slide/Officer ltwt frame combo, in 9mm, would be the perfect replacement for my carry Glock.
