I know you have to be careful about who you let fine-tune your roscoe, but hey, there are some great guys out there that don't have super-long back logs. No offense here intended to the guys w/high back-logs. Just mean that there are some guys out there doing pretty good work with little customer base for whatever reason. Just gettin started, just a part-time hobby cuz they love playing w/guns, etc. Anyone else out there had good experiences with them? My personal SA has never had a malfunction and shoots better than I do, and made by a small-town smith with a small customer base. Perhaps it had a lot to do with what Hilton was talking about once; attention to detail. Doesn't mean that a Heinie, Vickers or BCP aren't still on my MOST WANTED list, but I'm pretty happy with my small-town smith.

The owner of the range where I shoot (and the local IPSC club's "home range")has built several nice guns for IPSC club members. He did an excellent trigger job on my Kimber and will probably do more work on it in the future.
I'm sure there are many good smiths out there nobody's heard of. Getting "famous" takes a lot of luck as well as skill. Take the music business. Some of the best bands I've heard were local "bar bands". Excellent musicians nobody (away from here) ever heard of. The bands that hit it big not only have talent, they were lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time to impress the right people.

Gene is located up here in Northern Nevada. His shop is over in Carson City. If you need his contact info, e-mail me. There is nothing quite like shooting in the same squad as your smith. He knows how you shoot, and what you need to succeed.

One of the best with a 3 month backlog is 1911 Heaven here in Chandler, AZ. Check out the web site http://www.1911-heaven.com/ I own a Carry Model 45 ACP. This is a true one hole pistol. I get groups so tight at 25 yards the range master could not believe I was doing this off hand. He bought one shortly after shooting mine.

I just logged on. Looks like a good site. I just want to introduce myself to anyone who cares. Mark Hartshorne is my name and I own and operate Pinnacle High performance. I have been a pistolsmith since 1991 working fulltime in another smiths shop till 1997. Went out on my own working partime at it since then, while holding down a fulltime job as a tool and die maker. I am officially going fulltime on 6/4/01. You can check out some of my work at http://www.pinnacle-guns.com , Most of you are probably saying, Yea, he is a little known gunsmith.

thanks,
Mark

Mark,

Welcome aboard. Always glad to see another smith join the party. I took a look at your web site -- nice work! I thought it was interesting that you have custom stocks to make a single stack feel like a double stack. Just recently we had someone post that they had hands that were so big that they actually preferred the double stack girth. Sounds like your stocks would be just the ticket for him. BTW, we have a number of members that are from PA. I am sure a few will wanna know more about your work.
