I live up in the Central Valley, and I'm looking for CQB training, including hand-to-hand, for both home defense, using M1 Carbine and pistol, and street, using pistol. Time and money (or the lack of) prevent me from being able to attend something like Gunsite , and I would like to be able to get more realistic practice than what I can do using homebrewed training based on training manuals. I am open to either formal courses, or informal training from military or tactical LE unit trained people. Thanks.

Try Trident Firearm Academy. They are located in Turlock I believe. The owners are firearm instructors for the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Dept. I believe they have both instructed for Gunsite in the past as well.
I know the guys at Barnwood Arms in Ripon have their phone numbers.

If I'm not mistaken, I think the Halo Group is Gabe Suarez's outfit. Anybody know for sure?

Guardsman,

There is also TFTT Tactical Firearms Training Team. Staffed mostly by USMC SO individuals. They frequenlty hold classes at the Sac Valley Shooting Center in Ione. They have a web page tftt.com

I have not taken any of their courses so I can not offer an opinion.

laters,

I haven't done training with the Halo Group, but I have spoken to them. They seem to be a very straight forward, no-nonsense operation. Gabe Suarez was indeed affiliated with these guys awhile back but have since parted ways.

Guardsman,

My company, Shooters-Edge, sponsors
about 20 or so courses per year -- all
big name instructors -- in the Los
Angeles area.

We have Awerbuck, Randy Cain, Bill Jeans,
Dane Burns, Carl Taylor of Surgical
Shooting, Andy Stanford, and a bunch of
others. Our classes are small, intense,
and usually have about 20% Law Enforcement
attendance.

You can see our 2002 Schedule on our web
site: http://www.shooters-edge.com
Go to the link: 2002 Schedule.
Lots of CQB stuff on our schedule. A couple
of classes in that area also under negotiation.

There are some other events being planned
that are currently on the schedule and will
be added later.

We generally do not cancel classes once
scheduled, even if we lose money. We only
cancelled one class in two years -- over
40 courses.

There is a link there to contact me. You
should get on our e-mail list so that I
can make sure you get reminders.

Bruce Krell
Shooters-Edge.
