Hi,
I went out shooting last night, to test out the new magazines for my Beretta that I just received. These are new factory 10 round mags. The magazines kept jamming on the first round.
In more detail, I would shoot the last round, and the Beretta's slide would rack open. Then I would switch magazines, and hit the slide release. The slide would rack forward partway and then stop. Looking in the port, I could see the first bullet, halfway in/out, but still stuck in the magazine. Grabbing the slide and racking it back and then letting go worked by forcing the round again, and the rest of the round feed fine..it's just the first round. This problem does not occur with my older 15 round mags...
Any ideas? My first thought was that I should replace the stock recoil spring on the Beretta, but now I'm wondering if the magazine spring is just tight since it is new.

You might try loading the magazines and leaving them loaded for some time, so as to cause their springs to take a bit of a "set" and weaken slightly.

Does the problem occur with only 9 rounds loaded in the magazine? Some of the post-ban mags (notably the Glocks) are diminsioned so as to be 9 and 7/8th's round magazines rather than 10-rounders. Apparently, the makers were spooked that, if someone could somehow FORCE 11 rounds into a 10-round mag, all hell would break loose for them. Given the silly law and the extreme consequences, this is an understandable position.
