If you were going to build an iron-sighted express rifle on a Mauser action, which one would you choose, and why? My meager knowledge points me towards an FN Mauser action as they can usually be found in the form of Sears "J.C. Higgins" rifles (Who the heck WAS J.C. Higgins?!?!), usually at a very good price. If you were to go with a military Mauser, which one gets the nod? If you are interested, I am leaning towards 9.3X62 or .416 Taylor for calibers.... IF I can find a 9.3 barrel and 9.3X62 reamer....

I'd call your "buddy" at BCP and see if he'll cough up a 9.3 Mauser for you from his stash. It would be a Husqvarna '98 in factory express rifle form, barrel band sling swivel and island sight with a ramp front.
