Hello. For the thirty years that I've been actively shooting, buying/trading, and having pistols customized, the BHP's been my favorite. (The 1911 is a very close second for me.) I own other make 9mm pistols including the SIG P210, but I still keep coming back to the HP.

For me, they are simple and easy to understand although when they have problems, the true solution may not be what one first thinks! I find the newer ones plenty accurate for most things and really appreciate the fact that we don't have to dink about with them to get reliable feeding with JHPs as was the case in the early 70s.

They have a feel and look shared by no other handgun in my view. I just plain like 'em.

Don't take anything I've said here as a slam on the 1911; it's not. I really like them as well and NO gun looks as good in a deep blue finish with genuine ivory stocks. (Well, maybe a Peacemaker...)

I own several HPs that have been modified or customized, including the first one I bought new back in '71.

Well, had nothing specific. Just wanted to be THE first on the BHP thread.

Best to all.

I was just going to message you Stephen, about the new forum. I thought you might like to do the honors, but I see nothing gets past you

I think we are going to see there are a lot of Hi-Power fans lurking about. A great pistol that rightly deserves it own little corner of cyber space.

Who else likes Hi-Powers too?

DD

Hi Steven. Not sure yet. Thinking about several options. I may set it up in the mill to round top the slide also. Heinies would work well. Novaks too. This gun is my experiment piece due to its low cost. I've even thought about milling in a set of Kimber sights off a 1911. Some love 'em. Some don't. I think the top radius is close to the same on both the 1911 & HiPower. I've got a junked HiPower slide to do that experiment on. I'm not the sharpest pencil in the drawer  , but I think the slide profile on the vent rib FEG leaves a little more mass that would be good to have on a chopped & channeled hot rod. It doesn't have the deep relief cuts at the front like a standard HiPower. I know some like lighter slides in certain applications, but I believe when you shorten one, the residual slide mass becomes more important to proper function. OOPS, I guess I let the cat out about one of my future projects.

Hello. I sure appreciate your information and while I'm most certainly NOT a 'smith or even a talented "home butcher," I do agree with your concept concerning necessary mass in the slide. When you get through with your figuring and measuring, etc, let us know what you decide. I suspect that many such owners would be quite interested.

Best.

I like 'em - just don't own one.

I think they make them in .40 S&W now, don't they ?

This may convince me to buy one. No - this is not the start of a flame war on 9mm's - I simply need an excuse to buy a new gun (I love you honey), and I already own a 9mm (Glock 17).

The Hi-Power is my 2nd favorite pistol... just slightly behind the 1911. In my times on the 'net I've learned much about the P35 - Mr Stephen Camp has been a great source of info for me- THANKS Steve!

Shane, yes they do have .40 HPs. I purchased one about a year ago with the intentions of converting it to 357Sig. Alas, I parted with that one. I'm not a fan of the .40 (though a fine round) and sold the piece when I decided to simplify my semi-auto calibers down to just the .45 and 9mm. Check out http://www.gunsamerica.com as you can normally find new samples there. I have also heard that FN will re-issue the .40 HPs sometime after the 9mm's hit the market.
