Being the 1911 addicted collector that I am I often check places like Collector's Firearms, Joe Salter, and once in a while, Cabella's Gun Library. The photo of the gun wasn't the greatest but it was a Colt, 1911, and was in .38 Super, one of my favorite rounds - that include .45 cap and 10mm.

I know there are some old treasures out there waiting to be collected and lovingly shot; several years ago I ended up with a .45 cap Colt 1911 that was customized by Jesse Harpe one of the pioneers of bullseye gun making. I may have gotten lucky once again; when I opened the box at my local gun shop the barrel bushing is marked "DINAN". At home I removed the Pachmayr wraparound stocks to find stippling on the back strap as well as it was on the front strap. There is a 3 screw full length Bomar rib with Bomar rear sight and a trigger shoe that is marked "R2Q P". The trigger pull is very smooth; but there is not a half cock notch (or it doesn't work) its either cocked or hammer down. The serial number dates the frame to 1962/.38 Super frame. If anyone has a DINAN customized pistol please take a look at mine and tell me what you think. Thanks.

When is a .38 Super not a .38 Super? When the chamber is reamed to fit .38 Special Midrange Wadcutters:

Holy Moly!

Did the drop check; um .38 Super only fits when forced; .38 Special Mid-range wad cutter fits perfect!

I'll be darned!
