Just thought about your question some more. If you meant what it is, as in what's it's make up/application. I'm GUESSING some sort of powder/baked on coating.

From what I've been told it's their version of a carbon nitride finish that they call "Nitron". Glock is researching what type of finish to put on their guns when they start building some completely in the US. I saw Carbon Nitriding was one of their choices (Sig's Nitron).

I dont THINK Nitron is a carburizing process. I BELIEVE it is only nitriding. Very similar to many gear hardening processes.

nitron used to be a TiN coating, but has become a carbon deposition process , unless it's changed back since aug 14 2007... which would be best i feel.
