Got this P22 which I like. A little small for my hands but shoots better than I can hold. When I try to extract an unfired round, Extractor seems to slip by the edge of the cartridge and the round remains tight in the chamber. It requires the use of a screwdriver.

Do I need to get the extractor reshaped. ??

Is the chamber clean , is the chamber pitted , have You tried different ammo , Chamber could be a thousandths or two short for the case , If all the above is good , First thing I would do , if the pistol was a 1911 is to increase extractor tension....sometime polishin' the chamber is needed

Wild Bill,

Thanks for the check list. I am gong to start with the last suggestion. If I squeeze the extractor while operating slide, bullet will extract.

If there is a coil spring pushin' against the extractor You might try strecthin' it slightly , gun parts might have a spring , might find one in Brownells replacement coil spring package

i know this is an old thread but i figured i would finish off the info for anyone looking back. the extractor on the wather can not be reshaped very much. if you have one of the very very old extractors it was possible to peen it and stretch a bit but the newer ones will just crack.

the main things to do are to stretch the extractor spring a little bit. I use a diamond knife stone to lightly sand the hook for the extractor to get a better bite on the case. last option would be to upgrade the extractor. volquartsen has one https://www.volquartsen.com/products/542-walther-p22-exact-edge-extractor
