I want to install a new front sight on a Model 66-7 with a roll-pinned front sight, but I can’t remember which direction the pin needs to be removed.

Looking at the roll pin, it appears to have been installed from the shooters right side (left if facing the muzzle), and should be tapped out the opposite way.

Anyone know if that’s correct?

Pins are "normally" installed from the right side, and removed from the left side.

This is not always the case, but that's how to remove a S&W sight pin.

Yup, taps out from the (shooters) left to right.

BTW, a T5 Torx bit will serve as a punch and Ace Hardware usually carry’s numbered drill bits (#54 for the pinned S&Ws).

Saves a little time and and money not having to buy a a specialty punch (or set of punches.)
