I typically send all my Colt SAA's to Eddie Janis at Peacemaker Specialists - who does excellent work, probably one of, if not, the best, for COlt SAA's. One time, I got impatient, and sent one SAA to Bob Munden. It is not even close to the quality of Eddie - the notches are getting peaned over in the cylinder, and the pistol locks up occasionally if cycled too quickly. I was very dissapointed. I have used the grip maker that Munden uses, and was very pleased with his work (I forgot his name).

The lesson is - wait for quality..Long after I forget about how long I waited for Eddie, I am always pleased with his work. Every time I pick up the 'Munden" SAA, I am unhappy, and have forgotten about the quick turn around time.

Dave, Eddie Janis doesn't have internet access. You have to call him. He's a good guy, and knows Colt SAA's. He bought the business from John Kopec, who is a well known, and respected Colt authority. Kopec was one of the authors of the book "The Study of The Colt Single Action Army Revolver", by Graham, Kopec, and Moore.
This book is a must have for anyone who collects the SAA..
It's a two week read!
Janis did an action job on one of my SAA's, and it is perfect.
Dave Sample also works on the Colt SAA, and can make that gun as smooth as silk!

S/A Tune Ups.

Lou, Thanks for the kind words. My website is www.captaineagle.com and I still do some work for CAS. Eddie Janis is a good saddle pal of mine and he is one of the best men I know in the business, but I work on the clones and he don't. I am also pretty well know in SASS circles and am a Field Editor for SHOOT! Magazine and am starting a column called "COWBOY SMITHIN' that will be in every issue. My three part article on sixgun tune ups may be of interest to you ,also. I am in John Taffin's latest book and he has written about my work in American Handgunner. Bob Munden is a legend in his own mind and the fastest gun in the world. He can really shoot and he and Becky make a ton of money doing their thing as performers and smiths. It's up to you as to what you want and at what price. My turn around, if I don't need parts ,is 7 to 10 days. And mine is the best of any of them.
