What is your feelings on the S&W 5906 Tactical and the 59 series on the whole? I was thinking about getting one for home and range use. I all ready have a few Glocks and was curious about the S&W. Any info is great. Thanks.
I've owned several Smith autos and have never had a problem. My carry gun is a 4013 Tactical. It's very accurate and has been 100% reliable from day one, which I can't say about my Sig. Can't give you any insight into the particular model you've asked about, but I can say that in my experience, Smith autos are of high quality. This of course excludes the Sigma line of autos, which I think are generally pieces of crap.
I`m really a big fan of Colt 1911 pistols, but my regular carry pistol is a Smith & Wesson 4553 Tactical. It has been the most reliable out of the box pistol I ever owned. No tune ups other than a set of Hogue grips.
I'm one of those who has had good results with the THIRD GENERATION S&W autos...including one favorite 915 that has around 3,500 rounds thru it without a failure of ANY KIND!!!
I also know that Ken Hackathorn owns...and thinks VERY HIGHLY of...a 5906 "Tactical" from the Performance Center...'nuff said, I reckon....mikey357
Have carried a DAO version, the M5946, for several years now. Shot it in IDPA for fun and have almost 8,000 rounds through it. No malfunctions...not once...not ever. Danged thing will even chamber empty casings. I've read that others have had problems with S&W autos, but not so far for me.
"There, you whore, you'll never kill another policeman in Texas". --- Texas Ranger Frank Hamer after emptying his 1911 into Bonnie Parker's body.
I, too, have had great success with the 5906. I carried it on duty and NEVER had any problems.
i liked the 5906 soo much I bought one as a personal weapon. I have many rounds through it and it has digested everything from hard ball to the hottest hollow points. Hell, it even functioned with the CCI snake loads(Blue tip with steel shot) with no problems.
Besides the Glock 22 and Ruger P90 I own, it outshoots both and rivals most if not all custom 1911's I have seen--this in bone stock trim.
The 5906 is a winner.
I have carried a 5903 for the past 10+ years and despite LOTS of rounds , it has always functioned. I am not really that wild over the S&W autos other than the M41's but there are surely much worse choices out there.
Recently tested a 5906 tactical in .40 and though heavy, it was accurate and functioned 100%. I hope I have my model designation correct, the model I shot was the steel framed forty.
I had a PC5906 about 2 years ago and had no compaints. I couldn't get the 1" groups that the gun mags crowed about but it was the 2nd most accurate(behind sig 210)that I ever owned. It was very tight(not quite LB tight) and the DA/SA trigger was very good. Never had any malfunctions and I was shooting a lot of lead reloads through it. It always felt a little "chunky" in the grips, and I sold it to get a P7(to my regret).
