Not new to handguns but I am back on the 1911 horse after learning on a a very old SA Mil Spec 1911a1, I went to other guns of german and Czech origin. I recently bought a Champion and would like to make it my carry gun, but I have some questions.
1. The reverse recoil is open in the front. I see this as a potential entry point for dirt. Can I find a cloesed front plug that drops in?
2. Looking for some good ammo to carry. I am thinking 200gn something or others. Yeh, Nay, other suggestions?
3. Looking for an outstanding IWB holster. Thinking about the Dual Talon Watch Six for Lou Alessi or Milt Sparks. I prefer Lou because I have dealt with him before. Other options that are comparable?

Thanks Guys.

Hi Matt...

Mine is open as well...For the folks that use a FLGR?
I don't... Brownells has an extensive inventory of these things and plugs, may find some help there...

I've been playin' with the 185s from Triton and Cor-Bon...Little less recovery time from the 230s for me...I think thy both make a 200gr...don't quote me though...
I did buy some 200gr Hornady to try for handloads, but the newest thing I've heard of in 200 gr is available at:

It's a different take on the expanding bullet approach. Might want to check into that. I'm gonna' try at least a couple of 50rd boxes...Here's the scoop...

Sounds like you're covered on the holster
approach as well...

Brownells should have plugs that fills in the space between the plug and the bottom of the barrel. I wouldn't worry too much about dirt getting in unless you're planning on crawling through mud.

Ammo choice is a personal decision. Here are my criterions and priority:

1. Absolutely reliable
2. If #1 is met, most accurate
3. Hollowpoint that meets first 2 points

FYI, I use 230 gr. Hydrashoks, but I wouldn't feel inadequate with any of the other loads. I prefer not to go below 200 gr. but that's neither here nor there. Just a personal preference.

Good luck and enjoy you're Champion.

Hey gyp_c2, you still want to get Dane to give us Champ owners our own little forum?

You know, I was just kinda' jokin' about it...But, have you noticed how many of us there are, all of a sudden like? Is it the new 2001 thing, or what? Are Commanders gettin' too pricey again? When I chose mine, there were Kimbers, SAs, Colts, Les Baers, STI, and Para-Ordanance available...The SAs and Colts were right next to each other and Kimbers next to the SAs on the other side...The prices were within 100 bucks to the Colt and 2-300 to the Kimbers...I just think there are a LOT MORE people buyin' right now for some reason. I've also noticed a lot of questions and answers re: Commanders, Pro-Carry, Commanche, etc...Must be the size thing.
I've already decided on a 5" for my next 2-3 choices(unless somethin' spectacular comes along)...I 've gotta' get some pieces in for BCP, and Vickers...My other choices are for CT Brian and Chuck Rogers...I'd love a Heinie but geez...No way I'm gonna' last that long...Maybe I'll come across one somewhere in someones' garage or closet and be in the right place at the right time!
Hah!
"...if wishes were horses"...
