I am thinking about picking one of these up in the next couple of months(provided my gun fund continues to grow). Any comments on them. I think I would like the Parkerized to match my dad's Mil Spec.
Any thing special to look for?
Thanks guys.
Oh I guess I better start shopping for a new holster too.

TA-DA!!!

I guess with Shane giving me my cue...I HAVE to jump in!
Did I answer this post already?
So many Champs, so little time!
I like mine...Got it from Santa at Christmas!
Mine is the 1999 model...It's loaded, but not AS loaded as the 2001 models...Mine is the blue version with polished sides and matte top...Fixed Novaks, bull bushing-less barrel, some sharp edges and a good shooter out of the box.
I've run 800 rds. through it with no problems, then took it to a smith friend to have a fibre-optic front sight staked on.(no dovetail front)...
After it came back from the smith, the ejector and extractor gave out at about the same time...Replaced those and it's back to 100% feeding reliability with ball and Hydra-Shoks as well as my carry ammo, 230 +P Cor-Bon JHP...Shoots a one hole group with the factory barrel from a rest at 50 ft...I can't see any farther than that so...don't really know beyond that.
Other than a few bobbles with Gold-Dot, it shoots the other ammo I mentioned and functions with the standard mags it came with. I bought some CMC 8 and 10 rd mags and it likes those as well...I would suggest Wilson mags for your first upgrades. The slide opens and closes when it's supposed to and it has a 4lb crisp trigger after buffin' it a bit...It was 5lbs from the factory and has been dry-fired A LOT!!!

Not sure what else to say about it...There are plenty of other owners, quite a few I know of in the last 3 months or so...I have heard of 1 unsatisfied person since I started checking them out last Nov...There are sometimes probs with the mags, extractors, ejectors and trigger pull weight...Mine has had the probs I mentioned and I replaced the parts and cleaned up the trigger myself...I would suggest you have a smith do it or send it to SA for any and all problems...There is a fellow there named Dave Williams that runs the Custom Shop and he is easy to talk to and they are quick to answer any questions and eager to please...

Hope this helps, if you need anything else, feel free to drop me a line...

Yep thats what I wanted to hear. My local range is owned by a 1911 smith who is very fair priced. He and I were discussing 1911's and the new Springfields. He said if I wanted one give the word and he would order one. So now I just need some overtime and some tax return money

I love mine. Matt, if you're getting a 2001 model make sure it has these features:

-Dovetailed front sight
-Tritium nite sights
-Beveled mag well

There are a number of other new features, but I think these increase the value of the gun. Not saying they are necessities, but if you're paying 2001 prices, then you should be getting 2001 features. Have fun. I'm enjoying mine so far.

Yep...Good point Mute...I do miss the dovetail front. If you ever get ready to sell you'll get more for the night-sights and the rest...
To tell you the truth...with what I know now...I'd still buy another at the same price without the bells and whistles...I do really think the Beavertail Grip Safety is cool, and mine also has a minor bevel to the mag.The main thing...they are SHOOTERS!
I was so surprised to empty mag after mag and just worry about where I was holdin' and nothin' else!

When i realized that I wasn't havin'ANY of the probs some others warned about, I realized there are good ones and not so good ones...I know of more GOOD than bad...

Ok, Fellas at 5o'clock Friday afternoon I became the owner of a 2001 Springfield Champion parkerized, Novak Night sights.
One Word. WOW!
Fit and finish are excellent.
The Frame is a Grey Green Parkerized and the Slide is a black Park. Man it looks good. One Complaint on Finish. The top of the Front sight has some of black worn off. easy fix. Grips are light brown with some black swirled in.
Sights are dead on.
Balance is great.
Here comes the good part. I asked if the Range guys could order it. He called the distributor(RSR) and asked if had one in stock, then he drove over and picked it up from them, so I could have it then and there. Talk about service. Everybody at the range drooled over it,in fact the manger said he was going to order one to put in the case on Monday after he looked it over.
I cleaned it at there counter lube it and ran 50 rounds of CCI Blazer 230's through it.
ZERO malfuntions. Man I love this gun. I would like to put slimmer, less sharply checkered grips on it.
THANKS for the advice guys.
