i have a springfield 1911 i have sent back to the factory has anyone had experience with their customer service? i was going to fit a beaver tail on the gun, i bought a beaver tail from smith and alexander, took gun apart and was looking things over then i noticed that this beaver tail would already go on and was able to pin it in, it looked like crap because of gaps here and there. i bought the gun new and it was equipped with an extended thumb safety and extended slide stop and milspec grip safety it is stainless with wood grips and milspec sights, has anyone else seen a springfield like this?

Hi Mike...Is this a 45?
The folks at Springfield can tell you quite a bit about it from the serial #...I haven't seen on with the collection of parts you mentioned...Perhaps someone else has...Dave Williams, the manager of the Custom Shop at SA will be able to help as will some of the others that have been around...

Good Luck...

Sounds like the frame tail was already cut for a BT at the factory. Springfield uses a smaller .220" radius on their guns due to the frame tail dimension on the Brazilian forging they use (more like a pure 1911, not 1911A1). S&A makes a .220" radius BT just for this frame. Most others are .250".

.030" would be a BIG gap!

the b/t i got had the .220 radius on it,supposedlyalthough i didnt check it with my radius gages i just took smith and alexanders word for it on the package they might have got it mixed up.
gyp_c, i talked to dave williams (real nice guy)and he was some help he didnt know about the weird layout of the gun though. he is the one who asked me to send the gun in and said he would look at it personally.

Great!
I've ALWAYS heard good things about Dave and he was very courteous and friendly when we corresponded a while back...I asked him about my SAs' DOBirth and he told me the day, month, and year pretty quick...That was why I thought he might have seen one like you describe...He DOES see quite a few...
