Ouch! The correct method is to stake the PIN, not the PART. A center punch is normally used to enpand the ends of the pin while supporting the assembled parts,to keep the pin from moving out of the part.
Always deface the least expensive component, unless you are looking for confirmation as a parts butcher.
Remember that your reputation as a pistolsmith is wholly dependent on each job, no matter how small, that leaves your shop.
