Yup, a California dealer came in yesterday afternoon with two baskets of guns including many, many 1911's, that they apparently can't sell any longer in CA (is this true?). At any rate, among them was an Armond Swenson SS Colt OM, with all his usual bells and whistles. Used but in very good to excellent condition. Asking price including 3 mags...$1250, but I know they were taking offers. What do you guys think? If she's still there should I indulge?

I would ask to see any documentation the seller has. If it is an OM, that would have to be from the tail end of Armand's career -- not necessarily when he was at the height of his powers. I would be far less interested if it didn't have the orginal shop receipt and test target. Not to sound like an alarmist, but this could possibly be a fake Swenson. Yes, there were/are some floating around. Seems someone either got a hold of his stamper, or made a duplicate, as several years back a few surfaced on the market. Where was the gun marked A.D. Swenson? Personally, I would do a little more homework.

Thanks for the heads up, DD. Used to have a full-size Swenson, and this one 'looked' legit. To be honest though, I'd just bought another 1911 from these folks, and therefore didn't have the spare cash (thus not the immediate incentive) to give the gun the proper pre-purchase inspection. I know the sellers, who are quite reputable, bye the way. My problem is that I know little about Swenson's O.M. pieces. This one had what looked like a Smith barrel, with the bulbous muzzle, while everything else appeared to be trademark Swenson. Very interesting. Thanks again!
