Having worked in a suit and tie for a lot of years, I have worn out my share of dress/gun belts. These have been from some of the best leather guys in the world. Now I have a dress belt that I have worn for 4 years, carried everything from a pager and cell phone to a G-26 or 1911 on it, and it looks brand new.

You can't do any better than the Uncle Mikes Mirage dress belts. Their LE Sales Rep (and good friend) Chuck Buis had told me how great they were. He was right. They don't scratch, stretch, or split. They are stuff enough to support a 1911 and they cost less than $30.00.

I know, I'm betraying Lou and the rest of the guys but it's the truth. I'll continue to use Lou's Heinie DOJ and a few other rigs. But for belts, Uncle Mikes has won me over.

Chuck sent me a couple of samples for an article for Harris. They are available in black, brown, and "Cayman Lizard" or some such name which looks like gator. There is no Cayman Lizard so PETA won't get upset.

I think Galls and some of the other mail order houses have them.

Hope that helps.

I have yet to lay my hands on one of their belts, but from what I see in this picture, it looks to be a viable alternative for those who don't insist of leather.

Personally, I will remain ever the skeptic (I do have a strong affinity/bias for natural materials), until I try one for myself. However, I will buy one for T&E purposes, based solely on Rob's edorsement. Kudos to Rob for sharing his findings, even if it does make his photo a dartboard favorite with holstermakers.

You can probably find cheaper sources, but you can order directly from Uncle Mike's.

Great suggestion Rob,
I have an entire box full of dead belts.
I like this board more and more, now I'm getting ideas to actually "save" money, unbelievable!
I am ordering a few to test first thing tomorrow morning.

I have one of these belts that I've been wearing for about three years. They look EXACTLY like a high quality leather dress belt, but will hold a full size pistol, cuffs, radio and double mag pouch without rolling over, stretching or cracking. Retail is $40, but I paid $29 at Southeastern Public Safety in Norcross, Ga. They stock a good selection of them. If you are a leather lover, you'll never know the difference, except that ( unlike leather ) they will last and look good forever, with no maintainance. Bad news, though. They don't make the brown or lizard anymore, 'cause all anybody bought was black.

For those with more substantial circumferences  , the Uncle Mike's web site shows they have brown belts in sizes 42 & 44. The also shown the lizard in sizes 40, 42 & 44. If Oso is correct, then these may very well be the last ones available.

Here is the order page.

DD,
That is exactly why you will NEVER see my photo in any article I do or anyone else does for that matter. Decoys are used. It also gives me a little anonymity at places like Blade and SHOT!!!!

Gang:

For a fee, I have a photo of Rob consuming adult beverages on a cabana overhanging a beach in the Caribbean. I could get it published, if there was enough demand.

I use mine with two different holsters, one leather / one kydex, and both have the 1.5" slots. Works like a charm. Called Southeastern to see if they had a brown I could order and they did. Cost me $30.99 plus shipping.
