I looked at one today. It had 10 rd. mags and no mag funnel like the pictures I have seen before. It was marked $1369, but I can buy it for $1350 tax included. This is the only 40 cal expert I have seen. What do you guys think? Is it worth that kind of money?

David,
Sorry to disagree with you, butI closely examined both the pistol and the case and accessories. Slide was clearly marked USP Expert. Barrel was 5 inches, H&K marked recessed adj. sights and match trigger. The grey canvas H&K case(same as my Tactical came in) contained 2 extra mags, sight and trigger adjustment tools and an extra spurless hammer. My dealer advised me this was one of approximately 100 pistols H&K imported without the magwells so they would accept the post-ban 10 round magazines. It was an expert!

Diagnosing issues over the internet sight unseen is difficult, HK has not produced any such pistols but that does not mean that an importer/distributor has not.

The HK USP Expert series is a great handgun. I have them in 45 and 40. They are a step above the standard USP and the Tactical. Better Accuracy, handling, and balance are its key advantages over the other USP's.

What you are describing is the HK USP Expert package. Some come with the jet funnel others do not. That price of $1350.00 sounds steep. I paid $1000.00 for mine with the jet funnel and the rest of the goodies but it did not come with any mags. It was new and that was a great price. I would not pay more then $1200 for one new. Check with McDonald Tactical in CO they have the best prices I have seen

Cal's was the only place that I know of that was doing this unthinkable thing to the Expert's. They said that they had HK's Blessing to do it but.... If you find another like that request that they provide you with the jet funnel complete! And tell them to shove it if they want extra money for it as they are doing bad business!

a 40 Expert w/o the jet funnel is way over-priced for the money you quoted. I paid 1150 for mine, w/ the jet funnel, but w/o mags, brand new, in box w/ all the papers, etc. I took off the jet funnel and I can use my pre-ban 13 round mags w/o difficulty. If the slide says "40 Expert" that's what it is, but you damn well oughta be gettin' the jet funnel!!

Tony, the 9 Expert is quite a shooter! Just a side note, I was the first in the USA to have all 3 Experts which included the first 9 Expert that came into the states, but along came another project and I sold my 45 Expert to Matt DelFatti. So alas I will have to relinguish my standing to tony.

I will not part with my 40 or 9 Expert as I found them to be my favorites! Something about that jet funnel and extended slide!

Ragls,

what a coincidence!! to get my 9 Expert, i sold my M10 to Matt! How about that. Anyway, what holsters have you found to be useful for your 9 and 40. Matt has done an extraordinary job (IMHO) with a belt slide for the 45 Expert and i was thinking that would be a good choice for mine. OTOH, i've heard some guys over on HKPro and ParkCities say that Blade-Tech has some nice ones as well.

take care, tony

Matt sent me a picture of the one he did for the 45 Expert and it looked great! He has a rig on the way to me for a 1911, can't wait!

I have a Blade Tech off set drop holster which accomadates both the 9 and 40 Expert since thier dimensions are the same. I bought it with the idea of it being a compromise competition rig, but I believe now that it functions quite well in that role! Very fast to draw from! And it is light as a feather but tough as nails!

For CCW I would probably stay with Matt's work!

Tony,
Whatever holsters you buy make sure they are in black, as I need a new black rig for my Expert 9mm and .40..

ragls,
As to being the first owner of all three in the US, when did you buy your set?

The reason I ask is that the first set that I know of was imported in 1999 and belongs to Jim Wilson.

I purchased my first Expert 9mm in late November of 2000.

Well it looks like I might have to change the wording to the first to fess up to owning all 3. Maybe second? Third? Actually I purchased all 3 of my Expert's this past year. Oh well.... I don't Love the 9+40 any less! This info was based from the HKPRO board.

Tony, I just recieved my rig from Matt and it is FANTASTIC and all Black! I got the comtac with a 15% rake. It looks like I will more than likely order another..just have to figure out for which one!

I would say definitely number 3, possibly #2.

Now if only one of us had the complete and total USP set including the match guns and the next generation SOCOM test prototype.

My next purchase will be the P8.

That is a nice rig, and Matt makes some very nice leather.

Hey guys,

Yep, 9Expert arrives tomorrow at Archery & Gun Outfitters. Cannot cotton pickin' wait to shoot it!!. It's nice to know I'm in pretty rare (and competent) company as far as these weapons are concerned.

Dave, roger on the holster from Matt; he is not only one helluva fine person, but gosh does he make some beautiful leather; He's better than Mitch Rosen IMHO and a helluva lot easier to deal with and damn sure less expensive.

Ragls, how does the 15 degree rake work when drawing from concealment, and, how well does it conceal; i think these weapons are concealable in the right holster but I'd sure appreciate your input.

As I was sitting contemplating what HK to get next, my thoughts went both to the P10, SOCOM and, this summer to the P2000, one of which a fellow LFI colleague of mine says he'll sell me (he's a dealer in Germany). by the way, what the hell is the new SOCOM prototype, Dave?

Which one would you all elect to get first. Of course, I'm gonna have to wait for my piggy bank to get refurbished after the hit it took w/ both the 9 and 45 Experts (grin).

You both take care,

tony

Dave, Ragls,

just picked up my 9 Expert. Good grief is it beautiful, even w/o the jet funnel and only the 15 round mags. I got em all now!!

Let's see, if I made up an after-market 40FS tactical, then i'd have all of those too.

can't wait to hit the range w/ the 9.

ttyl and thanks for the advice guys.
