I have a friend who has one in .45ACP and he wants to sell it to me. He's telling me that it was only made in 1990. His price is $900.00.
While it's a beautiful gun in 98% or so condition with about 100 rounds fired through it, the book values that I've been able to find on this handgun say $500.00 and don't say anything about it being a limited one year run.

I guess what I'm asking is, is the price right and was it a limited edition run.

Thank you

Pete

P.S. I posted this on the other forum and while I received some good info on years of production no one offered an insight on what a good price would be for me to offer. Any ideas?

Pete

I guess the best one to ask would be Dane because he owns one, but hes away at the moment. $900? If he was a friend he'd cut you more slack and sell it to you for $800  Check Gunsamerica and Gunbroker. The used ones usually go for around $500-$750 and the NIB ones about $900 or so.

I have a Colt Combat Elite. Paid 650 for it used about 3 years ago. Its really tight, but $900? I'd look for a different gun, or a new friend.

GI, the Combat Elite was available first as a Combat Government in the series 70 and then as a Combat Elite in series 80. The CE was available in 38 Super and 45 ACP. I've seen it with fixed 3 dot sights and adjusible Accro's. It was discontinued in 1996 and is valued around 650 NIB. I saw a used on a few months ago in 95% for 500.

I have a LNIB, with papers, on hold for $650...which seems to be the going price.

They are nice looking, they did have some hand work done at the factory, but at that price ( $650+ ) your closing in on a Series 70 LNIB..

Thanks for the replies gents. I just called Colt and the very nice lady on the phone looked up the SN and told me that this particular gun was made in 1986.

I think I'm going to educate my friend and see if I can talk him down to $500-$600 price range.

A little late to the party it seems  I have two CE. Neither is anything special. Just nice Series 80 guns. Originally worth $500 or so and still worth just about that in bare bones form.

I would build on something else these days but they were a cheap date in their time.

I saw one in a gun shop today that said "new in box". True it didn't have much use or slide wear but the slide to frame fit was perfect, no movement side to side or up and down. The barrel also was tight with no play front or rear. It also didn't have the firing pin safety (the hole was there). It also had a Videcki trigger and a set of white polymer grips with hugh Colt logos.

Maybe I don't get "New in the box". Anyway the asking price was 700.00. I asked about the original Parts and was told "I don't know" but thats another story.
