Is there anything that can be applied to factory ammunition to make it waterproof? Most factory loaded ammo goes dead when left underwater for a few hours.

Clay,
I will often apply clear finishing lacquer to my ammunition for the same reasons.
It has worked for me even when I have gone swimming while armed.
I have had very good luck when using Federal white box military contract Ball ammunition.

Thanks David, for your response. Is there any particular brand/type of varnish that should be used? I was thinking of trying nail polish, because I use it a lot on the mouths of shotshells to prevent the buffer material from leaking out after time. My only concerns are of the product contaminating the primer, or causing a buildup of varnish on the breechface during use.

Clay,
Sorry for the delay, I just noticed this post had been replied to.
I use Super-Coat fishing rod lacquer, apply it sparingly and allow it to dry completely before use.
Also, bore solvents, Tetra, CLP and Rem Oil will soften it.
