I don't own a 9mm 1911A1, so this is just a hypothetical question. Could a 9x19mm barrel from a 1911A1 be reamed to (SAFELY) chamber and fire .38 Super?
I suspect that the difference in bore diameters could be problematic, if the intent is to use maximum .38 Super loads, but factory or military ball would be the fodder. I can imagine that extractor/ejector differences would be another source of trouble.
I was asked this question in the context of a group of story characters surreptitiously obtaining 1911A1s chambered for 9x19mm, while in a nameless South American country in which .38 Super would be more obtainable.
Just wondering.
