Gents,

Following a recent household move, I was going through some long-forgotten book boxes and found several issues of Handgun Quarterly from the '80s.

Does anyone else remember this periodical or know what became of it?

HQ, published by PJS out of Peoria, who also did Shooting Times, about ten years ago became the bimonthly Handgunning under the (very risky) Editorship of Sherry Collins, the former flack-catcher from S&W. After her "new direction" didn't work out to PJS' satisfaction, she left and a young fellow named John Malcolm Crowley took over.

It apparently didn't perform to anyone's expectations, including the new owners, and the magazine was folded about three years ago.

Dean,

Many thanks for getting me back up to speed on the demise of HQ. As I read over your comments, some points refreshed my memory, while others were completely new to me.

I don't recall much about how effectively (or ineffectively) HQ was edited, but I did remember a fairly attractive layout and some reasonably good photography. I couldn't help but wonder what had happened when I wasn't paying attention.

Mystery solved!
